Under Armour began in 1996 when Kevin Plank, the head coach of the University of Maryland's college football team, noticed the lack of practicality in the cotton training T-shirts that athletes wore as they collected sweat and added weight to their overall effort. He therefore focused on developing technologies that would keep athletes dry and focused by wicking sweat away from the body. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, since 1998, UA develops sportswear and footwear that aim to enhance athlete performance and with the motto Protect this House to inspire them to do everything for the team.
