The beginning of the Converse company goes back to 1908 in Malden, Massachusetts with founder Marquis Mills. The original focus was on rubber boots. By the 1910s, 4,000 pairs of rubber-soled shoes were being manufactured per day. However, in 1915 tennis shoe production began, with the company producing shoes for the New York Renaissance players. During World War II, Converse equipped the US Army with shoes. However, it didn't take long for Converse's decline to become apparent due to the rapid growth of competition, so in 2001 it was declared bankrupt. In 2003 Converse was acquired by Nike, releasing fashionable shoes that were popular and loved by many NBA players. Converse shoes had been worn by many celebrities and are quite well known and loved worldwide. Today Converse manufactures both casual and urban clothing, shoes and accessories for every gender.
